Artist’s Statement - Gallery II

I call these artworks existential sexual vignettes. They grew out of a personal experience of social rupture, one bristling with both passionate and, for me, poignant ramifications. I found myself suddenly in a wilderness of emotions. Do I flame-on or flame-out? It is, I suppose, another way of stating the obvious: transition or termination—the eternal (or infernal?) quest for justification, or at minimum, a grasping again of a rudimentary basis for preservation and continuation.

So, as you see, I came to my work in the company of a veritable regiment of pulsating sexual insinuation. As did the redoubtable Diogenes wander about with his lantern, most probably dazed and confused, so too I. How was it that he could not rediscover (as was my wont to do) the urgency for sexual congress and aver it to be the guiding light, shining as it were upon an honest act, an anthropological shard of hope (then, as now) for our progeny?

I do not see this concomitant sexuality of ours as a labor of life, but rather, as the means for the birth of life itself, and of course, the only opportunity for our further efforts to succeed. Please take hope, as well as heart, from these artworks--hope that this opportunity will continue to flourish and to prosper and to propagate, and heart that we shall continue to care whether or not it does.
