Artist’s Statement - Gallery IV

My work for the third gallery is kind of more of the same, but perhaps a bit more voluptuous; but the work you will find in my fourth gallery is different. My last trip to Europe (nearly two months spent traveling in Amsterdam, Paris, Marseille and Nice) was chronicled by my drawings (this work served as my rudder, to stabilize my vagabondage). And now, some number of months hence, I have extended these drawings by adding to many oil pastels as a coloring experience (though a few of them I left strictly alone, as I could do no better). These drawings, of course, capture only one image of any one experience, each of which is unique and virtually impossible to replicate (though perhaps every experience must fit somehow into this overly broad category); but I have tried to communicate the emotional impact at least, and my feel for the colors. I believe the moment of communication is a pastiche of impressions upon reality: colors, sounds, words and all of their virtual, actual and residual motivations. These are what we have to rely upon, and are for the most part, I think, quite sufficient…yes?
